Private Finnish lessons online

Private Finnish lessons by Emmi, online Finnish instructor

Hi, I’m Emmi! I’m the founder of Finking Cap, a hub for online Finnish learning where I offer private and online Finnish lessons to help learners of all levels gain confidence in Finnish.

I’m a qualified language teacher (MA) with 10 years of experience teaching adults, and I’m passionate about helping people learn Finnish in a fun and engaging way.

I lived abroad for 8 years, so I have first-hand experience in culture shock and language barriers. Moving to another country is a wonderful adventure, but it’s not always rosy!

I grew up in Kouvola, spent years abroad and in Helsinki, and now live in Oulu with my family. I love it here! The nature is always close, but you can also find fun and quirky urban events in the city and in the suburbs. I enjoy being outdoors, cycling around Oulu and drinking coffee in cozy cafes.

Why choose private Finnish lessons?

Private Finnish lessons are a great option for you if you’d like to have more individual help with your Finnish studies and have your teacher’s undivided attention.

Flexible online Finnish tutoring

When you choose one-on-one lessons with me, you will have the flexibility and freedom to fit your Finnish studies around other things in your life. I’m a very understanding teacher and I am happy to be flexible with schedules when needed.

How the Finnish lessons work

We can read books and articles together, go over your Finnish writing assignments, practice Finnish grammar topics or follow a textbook. I am very good at adapting to each student’s needs.

We can use Zoom or Teams for our online lessons.

We can also organize the lessons at your workplace in Oulu (Linnanmaa-Teknologiakylä).

What my students say about me:

Private lessons with Emmi helped me improve my Finnish a lot. I liked that the lessons didn't follow any predefined plan, but went along with what was more useful and interesting to me at the time: we did a lot of reading and talking about the books, but then, closer to my YKI test, focused on test specific exercises. Emmi also took plenty of notes in a shared document during every lesson, it was easy to review what we studied previously. Overall I highly recommend Emmi as a teacher.

I did both individual and group courses with Emmi. She is a dynamic teacher who adapts to the needs and wishes of the students. During our individual lessons we discussed complex themes and newspaper articles. I highly recommend Emmi's teaching methods and will definitely be taking more classes with her.
Ana Reinbold
I liked my private sessions with Emmi as we would focus on very relevant topics of my day to day life so I could practice right away what I’ve learned. She adapts her style to what you are interested in (for me, the grammatical rules were also important so she would explain to me the why and how). I would recommend Emmi for private sessions.
