Online Finnish Courses

Learn real-world Finnish, wherever you are.

How do you say “I have to” in Finnish? You may already know the common Finnish phrases “minun täytyy” and “minun pitää”. But did you know there’s a more advanced way? Here’s how:

To say “Minun täytyy” in an advanced way in Finnish, you need:

  • the Finnish personal pronoun in the genitive: minun
  • the verb: on (depending on the tense you need to use – perhaps you want to use the past tense oli?)
  • the first participle in the passive (for example mentävä)
