Watch this video to learn Finnish vocabulary and expressions that you can use around the house. In some of the examples, you will hear two versions: a standard Finnish version and a spoken Finnish version.
Example sentences:
pöytä = a table
Ruoka on pöydässä, tule syömään! = The food’s on the table, come eat!
tuoli = a chair
Ota tämä tuoli! = Take this chair!
kaappi = a cupboard
Toisitsä mulle kaapista sen sipsipussin? = Could you bring me that bag of crisps from the cupboard?
Standard Finnish: Toisitko minulle kaapista sen sipsipussin?
jääkaappi = a fridge
Onks jääkaapissa maitoa? = Is there any milk in the fridge?
Standard Finnish: Onko jääkaapissa maitoa?
kirjahylly = a bookshelf
Laita se kirja kirjahyllyyn. = Put that book on the bookshelf.
sohva = a sofa
Tuu mun vieree sohvalle. = Come here next to me on the sofa.
Standard Finnish: Tule minun viereeni sohvalle.
sohvapöytä = a coffee table
Älä pidä jalkoja sohvapöydällä, jooko? = Don’t rest your feet on the coffee table, please.
matto = a rug
Tää matto pitäisi pestä. = This rug should be washed.
Standard Finnish: Tämä matto pitäisi pestä.
